I happily describe myself as always having my nose in a book - mostly because it's true. I always have at least one physical book, and probably my Kindle with me at any given time. My local library know me by name, are always ready to chat about and recommend books to me (and crafting too!).

Neither of my parents are big readers, but they understood the importance of it for me as a child and I have fond memories of my dad taking me to the library every Saturday. I don't remember learning to read - I just remember being able to read. I remember being read bedtime stories and following along. I remember when I took over reading the books to my parents.

As a child I loved books like
The Gruffalo
Richard Scarrey books
The Very Hungry Caterpillar
Funnybones
Pretty much anything by Janet & Allan Ahlberg

As I got older
Goosebumps
Animorphs
Choose Your Own Adventure
Harry Potter
Percy Jackson
Fear Street

Then into my late teens and early twenties, I was all about the sci-fi
1984
Dune
Brave New World
Foundation
The Time Machine
Hitchhikers Guide To The Galaxy

I've recently finished reading
Best British Short Stories 2021
The Last Word: Tales from the Tip of the Mother Tongue
The Titan's Curse

And I've just started Gentleman Jack: A Biography of Anne Lister, Regency Landowner, Seducer and Secret Diarist

I always try and keep the mindset that there is always something to be thankful for. Some days, especially with everything that's going on in the world, it's hard... and today has been one of those days.

The one bright point in today was getting home from work to discover I'd had a delivery of tea: some gingerbread sticky chai, some salted caramel sticky chai and some mulled cider apple tea.

Curling up with a gingerbread sticky chai, a mince pie and a book will hopefully improve the evening
